The New Projector

I decided it was time to retire the old Sony 10HT projector. It is 5
years old and needs a new bulb. I also is old technology compared to
what is out today.

Taking the old projector down only took a few minutes because of the
quick interface on the Chief Mfg mount.

The old one, next to the new box.

The unveiling....

Ta Da!! Sony VPL-HS51A. I would have gone with the HS60 (the
newer model) but according to my research, they didn't change anything
except remove the
computer interface which is used to adjust the gamma on the HS51A. So,
it was a deal I couldn't pass up.
The picture above shows the sub-plate for the Chief Ceiling mount. I
had to remove the screws you can see there and install them from the
other side of the plate
so that I could flip the plate on the axis of the projector, which
allows you to remove the projector from the ceiling mount, and without
removing the sub-plate,
open up the air filter cover and replace it. Simple job that only takes
a few minutes to do with this style mount.

The old guy, giving up the reigns.

The new projector is smaller than the old one, has almost zero fan
noise, better black levels thanks to the auto-iris and better colors.
It also helped that it lined
up pretty close to the existing vent that I had already and had the
same lens throw.

I have to change the height of the projector vent, but will do so when
things cool off here in the Central Valley. Attics are a bad place to
be right now.
It took me about 2 hours to get the old one down, install the new one
and get everything lined up properly.
Not bad. I know I will get years of enjoyment out of this new
projector. The old one went onto Ebay already.
